Lehigh University students can receive variable credit for
participating in LEO activities during the academic year.
During the summer, internships are paid with a full time commitment
of a 40 hour work week for a period of 8-10 weeks.
These are treated as jobs, and therefore, you need to be responsible.
As a LEO intern, you are the majority of the workforce
and basically keep the observatory operational. With that
in mind, each student intern is an integral part of LEOs
success. Without dedicated student interns, LEO would not
survive. Each intern is expected to successfully carry
out all of the responsibilities necessary to make each project
a success.
LEO internships are not class work. They are not
exercises that will be graded and then discarded. In accepting
an internship, you will be expected to accomplish the
goals of the associated project, complete with a final product
on time and in a professional manner.
So, is a LEO internship for me?
Answer Yes if you are
- responsible, committed, and independent
- looking for a challenge
- looking for a professional experience
- looking for a different approach to learning
- are willing to work hard
Answer No if you are
- looking for an easy summer job
- looking for an easy way to obtain credits
- happy sliding by with a low B or C
- irresponsible
- not committed or self motivated
LEO interns can work individually, work as part of a
team, or participate through regularly scheduled classes that
include or focus on LEO activities or make use of LEO resources
and data. LEOs mission embraces a wide range of activities
distributed over a number of different programs.
