Dead Horse Point Overlook

There are many legends explaining the origin of the name "Dead Horse Point." One legend claims that cowboys used to corral the horses on the point so that they could chose the best of the group to use themselves. One day, the cowboys forgot to let the horses they did not want run free. The horses were trapped on the narrow point, thousands of feet above the Colorado River. When the horses where unable to free themselves, the legend says they died on the point.

Another version of the story claims that the horses jumped off the cliffs to the river below because they were so thirsty and could not escape any other way.
