The
Lehigh Earth Observatory (LEO) has numerous ongoing projects
related to water quality within the Lehigh River watershed.
These projects enable both undergraduates and graduate students
at Lehigh University to learn about water quality monitoring,
while contributing to a large database focused on the Lehigh
River. Data collected in these studies will assist with planning
services in the development of a Rivers Conservation Plan,
which will be made possible through our partnership with the
Pennsylvania Wildlands Conservancy. LEO has worked in conjunction
with the Wildlands Conservancy by monitoring a Hydroprobe
located in the main stem of the Lehigh and also receives data
from Parkland High School, where another Hydroprobe is maintained
on the Lehigh River, also in conjunction with the Wildlands
Conservancy.
LEO
has also taken on other water quality projects related to
the Lehigh River. On the main stem of the river, weekly grab
samples are taken from the Route 378 bridge, Bethlehem, PA.
Frequent grab samples have also been taken from numerous streams
within Jordan Creek and the Little Lehigh. An ISCO autosampler
is in place between the months of March and November for the
purpose of intensive storm sampling.

projects that LEO has been working on. To get more information
